TNR has previously exposed the unethical tactics (eg. deleted comments, commentators being banned from further comment, vilification, etc) used by Oil Free Seas – Kangaroo Island (OFSKI), now called Oil Free Seas – Australia (OFSA), in an article entitled “Inconvenient Truths Suppressed by OIL free SEAS-Kangaroo Island“.

While OFSA is a member of the Great Australian Bight (GAB) Alliance, which includes Sea Shepherd, The Wilderness Society, Australian Marine Conservation Society, the Bob Brown Foundation and a number of other organisations, we are surprised to see that the “delete and ban” tactic is alive and well in the GAB Alliance.

Not only does the GAB Alliance spread misinformation to a caring and giving public, they also withhold (censor!) valid information that commentators place on their Facebook page. For example, on the GAB Alliance post issued at 11.45am on 25 July, which commenced: “#‎VIDEO‬ Great Australian Bight Alliance Announcement. The Bob Brown Foundation has…….” a member of TNR, Robert John, placed the following comment in response to The Wilderness Society’s, Peter Owen, claim that the Great Australian Bight is ‘pristine’. “Interesting that Peter Owen states the Bight is ‘pristine’ – that’s after 122,000 line km of seismic surveys were acquired and 12 wells were drilled up to 2011 and then BP and others acquired 44,000 sq km of 3D seismic coverage in the GAB during late 2011 to early 2015. What impact did all that activity have on the environment? Peter Owen of Wilderness, by saying the area is still ‘pristine’ confirms the activity had zero impact!”

As you can see from the following two screen shots, it was there on 25 July 2016 but had been deleted by 26 July 2016 (First you see it, then you don’t!).

This action of deleting a person’s (very balanced) comment and banning him from further comments demonstrates that the facts (ie the truth) are too inconvenient for the GAB Alliance!
